Communications Manager
The Position
The Communications Manager is responsible for delivering an integrated communication strategy and the execution that supports the project’s reputation, relationships and readiness across key audiences.
Reporting into the Director, Group Corporate Affairs, the role supports all external communication activities—including stakeholder, government, investor, industry and supply chain, employer brand communications, media engagement and internal communications.
This role ensures clear, consistent and credible messaging across diverse audiences, including media, NT, Federal and International governments, Traditional Owners, industry and supply chain, communities, project partners, industrial customers, investors, employees and the general public.
Key Deliverables
External Communications
- Develop and execute communications strategies, plans and tactics to support all external facing communications.
- Lead all external communication activity to support project milestones, regulatory consultation processes, and engagement with key stakeholder groups.
- Develop clear messaging for diverse audiences, including NT, Federal and International governments, Traditional Owners, industry and supply chain, communities, project partners, industrial customers, investors, employees and the general public.
- Prepare briefing packs, submissions, correspondence and talking points for executing, government and stakeholder engagements.
- Translate complex technical, commercial and financial information into accessible narratives for external audiences.
- Support investor communication by preparing clear updates on project progress, risks, opportunities and investment logic.
- Coordinate with other departments such as Engineering, Procurement, Finance and Legal to ensure market-facing communication is accurate, compliant and consistent with company messaging.
- Provide communication support for procurement processes, including market and industry engagement and supplier briefings.
- Strengthen employer brand by promoting project purpose, values and workforce opportunities across external channels.
- Monitor political, community and stakeholder sentiment to inform external messaging and identify emerging risks.
- Develop strategies and plans to manage reputation, brand and company narrative.
Media Relations
- Develop and implement strategies and plans for proactive and reactive media engagement.
- Management of an external media consultancy.
- Provide direction and management of media enquiries.
- Prepare materials, statements and talking points.
- Manage internal information gathering requirements and approvals processes.
- Prepare executives for interviews, and provide message discipline for all public commentary.
- Manage the development of materials to support media activity, including media toolkits, statements and talking points, holding statements and reactive lines, crisis communication protocols, photographs, maps and other materials.
- Oversee media monitoring, sentiment analysis and reputational risk reporting.
- Ensure consistency and alignment between media messaging, government, stakeholder and investor communication.
Internal Communications
- Establish and maintain internal communication channels that support project-wide alignment, awareness and cultural connection.
- Develop an internal communication calendar aligned with project milestones, community and stakeholder engagement activities and investor updates.
- Prepare leadership messages, town hall scripts, intranet content and visual storytelling aligned to project priorities.
- Support change communication across key operational and organisational transitions.
- Build employee understanding of project progress, achievements and challenges through clear, regular updates.
- Ensure internal messaging remains consistent with all external communication.
Experience
- Undergraduate degree in strategic communications, public relations or other associated qualifications.
- 10 -15 years demonstrated experience in communications for a complex, high-profile company, event or major project.
- Experience working with or engaging with media, government, community, industry and other key stakeholders.
- Exposure to Traditional Owner engagement frameworks, community dynamics and regional project environments.
- Experience and capability in supporting executives and senior leaders with messaging in political and commercially sensitive contexts.
- High-quality writing and story-telling skills to support media, speeches, investor communications and industry and community engagement.
- Proven ability to simplify complex technical and commercial information.
- Deep knowledge of media handling, issues management and reputational risk management.
Industries/Background
- No specific industry background required, but renewable energy or energy would be preferred.
